Thelonious Monk (1917–1982) was one of the most original and influential composers in jazz history. His angular melodies, dissonant harmonies, and unique rhythmic approach made him a central figure in the development of bebop. Monk composed some of the most performed jazz standards including 'Round Midnight,' 'Straight, No Chaser,' 'Blue Monk,' and 'Well, You Needn't.' His compositions are beloved by jazz musicians worldwide for their challenging yet deeply musical qualities, and they have been arranged for big bands by many of the greatest arrangers in jazz.
