Maynard Ferguson (1928–2006) was a Canadian jazz trumpeter and bandleader celebrated for his extraordinary high-note playing. His ability to hit notes in the extreme upper register of the trumpet was legendary, and his big band arrangements were known for their energy and excitement. Ferguson led several influential orchestras and achieved mainstream success with his 1977 recording of 'Gonna Fly Now' from the Rocky soundtrack. His arrangements remain popular in school and professional jazz bands worldwide.
