Glenn Miller (1904–1944) was one of the best-selling recording artists of the Swing Era, known for creating one of the most distinctive sounds in big band music. His unique reed voicing—clarinet over four saxophones—became his trademark. Miller's orchestra produced a string of hits including 'In the Mood,' 'Moonlight Serenade,' and 'Pennsylvania 6-5000.' He disappeared over the English Channel in December 1944 while flying to entertain troops in France, becoming one of music's most enduring mysteries.
