Dizzy Gillespie (1917–1993) was one of the founding fathers of bebop and one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time. Along with Charlie Parker, Gillespie revolutionized jazz in the 1940s with his virtuosic technique, complex harmonies, and innovative rhythmic concepts. He was also a pioneer in bringing Afro-Cuban rhythms into jazz, collaborating with Cuban percussionist Chano Pozo to create 'Cubop.' Gillespie's compositions—including 'A Night in Tunisia,' 'Salt Peanuts,' and 'Groovin' High'—are jazz standards, and his big band arrangements were among the most sophisticated of the bebop era.
