American songwriter Sammy Lerner (1903–1989) is best known for his contributions to popular music and film scores from the 1930s through the 1950s. He penned the lyrics to the iconic cartoon theme song "Popeye the Sailor Man" and co-wrote the Oscar-nominated song "An Affair to Remember." Lerner's prolific career also included collaborations on numerous Broadway shows and hit songs for various artists.
