American trumpeter and composer Paul Smoker (1941–2016) was a prominent figure in avant-garde jazz. Known for his fiery improvisations and innovative compositions, he led various ensembles, including the Paul Smoker Trio, and collaborated with numerous influential artists. Smoker's work significantly contributed to the free jazz movement from the 1970s through the early 21st century.
