Danish-American trombonist and composer Kai Winding (1922–1983) was a prominent figure in cool jazz and bebop from the 1940s through the 1960s. He was renowned for his innovative trombone playing and his influential collaborations, particularly with fellow trombonist J.J. Johnson. Winding's contributions to jazz, including his work as a bandleader and arranger, helped define the sound of modern trombone in jazz.
