American lyricist Ballard MacDonald (1882–1935) was a prominent figure in early 20th-century popular music. He penned lyrics for numerous successful songs, including the jazz standard "Somebody Stole My Gal" and the World War I anthem "Over There." His prolific output contributed significantly to the Tin Pan Alley era.
