Renowned for his smooth, understated trumpet style, Buck Clayton was an American jazz trumpeter, arranger, and bandleader active from the 1930s through the 1980s. A pivotal figure in the Count Basie Orchestra during its early years, he significantly contributed to the development of the swing era sound with his lyrical solos and masterful arrangements. After leaving Basie, Clayton led his own successful big bands and small ensembles, touring internationally and collaborating with numerous jazz legends.
