An American jazz tenor saxophonist, Al Sears (1910–1990) was a prominent figure in the swing and rhythm and blues eras. He gained widespread recognition for his powerful and blues-inflected solos, notably during his tenure with the Duke Ellington Orchestra from 1943 to 1951. Sears also led his own successful groups and contributed significantly to the evolving sound of popular music in the mid-20th century.
