Why Christmas Jazz Concerts Are Special
The holiday concert is often the most anticipated performance of the year — for musicians, parents, and community members alike. A well-chosen program of Christmas jazz arrangements can create magical moments that audiences remember for years.
Classic Christmas Jazz Standards
These arrangements have stood the test of time:
"Jingle Bells" (Swing Version) Every big band needs a swinging "Jingle Bells." Look for arrangements that transform this familiar tune into a genuine jazz vehicle, with space for improvisation and section soli.
"White Christmas" Originally written by Irving Berlin, this song has been arranged in every style imaginable. For big band, look for a lush, ballad treatment or a medium-swing version.
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" A beautiful ballad that showcases your ensemble's tone and expression. Perfect for a quiet moment in an otherwise energetic program.
"Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" This tune works well as an up-tempo swing chart. Look for arrangements with a strong shout chorus.
